What is Boho Chic Style? - Top Boho

Boho Chic is a combination of Bohemian style and Hippie fashion with 'chic' - a French word meaning elegance and distinguished, to create a more polished and put-together version of the care-free, unique hippie and bohemian looks.

Bohemian and hippie styles are characterized by long flowing or tiered skirts and dresses, peasant blouses, ethnic touches like wood jewelry, embroidery or embellishment, and fringed handbags. The look is often layered,  colorful and contains a mix of patterns. Modern Boho Chic contains influences from these styles mixed into a look with other trends.

Boho Chic allows you to express your personality and sense of style, but still, maintain a level of sophistication. Pieces may be more closely fitted, more coordinated and use more neutral colors than boho, but the style is still very self-expressive.

Although this style is highly personable and unique to you, there are still a few elements that make Boho-Chic what it is:

1. Colors - Earthy, rich colors like greens, deep yellows, maroons, neutrals like browns, beige, and pastels.

2. Materials - Comfort and natural are key when it comes to materials. Cotton, denim, chiffon, leather, and suede are popular in the Boho Chic style.

3. Patterns - While the Bohemian and Hippie styles are all about layering patterns and colors, Boho Chic keeps this element in a more subtle way - patterns are added to add more texture to neutral tones.

4. Embellishments & Accessories - A little bit of artful dazzle goes a long way. Add a hint with elements such as hand-embroidery, beadwork, tassels, pom-poms, studs. And accessorize with simple jewelry, wide brim hats, or western style belts.

Boho-chic takes the vibrant, flowy, and retro elements of the hippie and bohemian fashion and adapts it to a more contemporary look. It still has that care-free, messy, relaxed, and colorful bohemian vibe but it is mixed with a slightly more urban and cosmopolitan look.
